Look at that color!

"Phyto" means "plant."

Phytochemicals are *biologically active compounds that are produced by plants, and these are responsible for the color, taste, and aroma of foods.

Phytochemicals evolved in plants for their protection; they have protective and preventive properties for the plants, these magical chemicals can protect us too.

When you eat the rainbow literally, you are eating and drinking protective and preventive compounds for your body. You are eating foods that will work with you in your life, not against you; eating colors means eating foods that create health.

People, in general, tend to focus "only" on the vitamin and mineral benefits of the plants, but there is more than that. The whole properties of the fruit and veggies are essential for human health.

For humans, phytochemicals have been shown to have a variety of potential health benefits, including antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, improved cardiovascular health, and reduced risk of certain cancers. Some phytochemicals have also been shown to have antimicrobial effects.
