My Path to Self-Awareness through Brain Coaching + free download

Have you ever found yourself adrift in your own mind, feeling lost and struggling to find your way back to shore? I know I have.

At some point, I felt that something was wrong within me - deep inside and somehow out of reach. We all have these feelings sometimes, and it does not mean you are broken in any way. However, we can certainly feel shattered, lost, and that something is not ok. Know that it is momentary, and you can feel differently after the storm.

I had been through rough moments with my health and in dark places in my mind. I started a lifetime journey of deconstructing the layers of my own suffering, and I found myself drifting in my own misery, stuck in the ocean of my mind, and going farther and farther from anything familiar.

I never realized how exhausting it is to be adrift.

Waves of thoughts, frustrations, and inner chaos were pulling me far from the coast and deep into a spiral of endless confusion.

I found refuge in meditation, positive neuroplasticity, and yoga. Though it wasn't easy, these practices became the anchors that helped me stay steady amidst the turmoil. Through practice, I found enjoyment in the journey and gained some perspective, at times feeling unsettled and at others, resolute, I persisted in managing my life, deconstructing my challenges, and reevaluating my belief systems. It was during this process that I stumbled upon a quote attributed to Buddha:

"The brain is the seat of the mind."

The simplicity and potency of this phrase woke me up. I was acutely aware that my own mind was the root of my troubles. This simple yet powerful phrase lead me somehow to study Buddhism ( informally ) and also lead me into brain coaching.

Through my brain coaching studies, I learned that: I could change my mind by changing my brain, and through neuroplasticity, I learned that I could change my brain by changing my mind.

Let me repeat:

“You can change your mind by changing your brain, and you can change your brain by changing your mind” (🤯!)

I started to study brain coaching, which opened my eyes in many ways. I learned about myself from a biological perspective, including the systems in the brain and what type of brain I have. I learned how to balance it through lifestyle, supplementation, and other things within my control.

And after coaching myself for around eight months, my mind was much clearer. I felt happier and more balanced and experienced 80% less anxiety and less depressive states. Although I had many wins, I still felt like I was not “there” yet. I continued to wrestle with some challenges, facing difficulties in seemingly straightforward tasks—things that shouldn't be complicated for me still very much a struggle.

The immediate benefits of brain coaching were many, some of them:

  • A profound understanding that our brain/ mind systems are like the universe, complex and infinite, with endless potential.

  • I learned that our brain is the organ responsible for our personality, creativity, judgment, and more, reinforcing the importance of taking care of it.

  • I discovered that I have ADHD. However, because of my studies, I have learned how to manage it naturally. While I still need medication, it is only in minimal doses and not every day.

  • Gaining insights into myself at a biological level provided valuable understanding:

    • I discovered I had a mix of spontaneous brain ( creative, poor impulse control, low dopamine), persistent brain ( strongwilled, I get stuck on thoughts, tends to see what’s wrong, low serotonin), and cautious brain ( I am too cautious, busy-mind and anxious).

    • Adjusting my supplementation and lifestyle according to my individual needs resulted in improved sleep, better mood, reduced anxiety, and other benefits.

    • Overall, it provided me with a sense of direction.

When I started this article, I started writing from the feeling of being adrift in my mind, lost, and struggling to find my way back to shore. Knowing that I have some control over certain areas of my brain/mind after so long helped me tremendously. It gave me a map to navigate this ocean.

So, when it comes to brain coaching, it's not like a magical cure-all, but let me tell you, it can be incredibly helpful. Seriously, it has the power to make a real difference in your life, especially when it comes to your mental well-being. Think about it: by taking care of your brain, you're actually taking care of the very thing that shapes how you see the world and how you think. It's pretty amazing, right?

I followed other steps, like challenging the contents of my mind. I had a lot of stories and inner beliefs that were not serving me in any way. Oh boy! We all have those!

The stories we tell ourselves hold immense power. They are the most important stories we will ever speak.

And the last bit, I embarked on the journey of cultivating new seeds within the metaphorical soil of the brain/mind—nurturing the growth of psychological strengths like mindfulness, compassion, kindness, a sense of security, and a feeling of wholeness. This practice, firmly grounded in the principles of positive neuroplasticity, became a cornerstone of my mental well-being. I wholeheartedly engaged in various aspects and approaches to help myself from every possible angle.

Brain coaching helped me understand that my mind was not out of reach as I thought. Progress requires dedicated effort, but I can assure you there is enough space for growth and healing. There is a lot we can do to generate new states of being.
